Rainflinger is a mixed water/fire-type or mixed air/fire-type spell (depending on the version) that repels water and/or dries objects in it's radius. It is unclear which spell is the current one, as one (or both) of the spell's variants were retconned.[1]
Old Versions[edit | edit source]
Repelling[edit | edit source]
The old version of the repelling variant of the rainflinger spell contained a central air sigil variant, with modified fire signs on the sides of the sigil, and crosshair signs above and below the air sigil. This spell creates a water repellent area, creating bubble devoid of water within the spell's radius.
Drying[edit | edit source]
The drying variant of rainflinger contains a central air sigil variant, with modified fire sigils, almost identical to those on the retconned repelling variant, placed on the sides of the sigil. Lastly, crosshair signs above and below the air sigil. The construction of this variant of rainflinger is almost identical to that of the retconned version of the repelling variant, except it's fire sigil variants are inverted and the line that passes through the triangle of the sigil does not connect. This spell dries things off and warms them up.
New Version[edit | edit source]
Introduced in Chapter 28, the new variant of rainflinger retconned either only one of the previous iterations of the spell or both of them. It is unknown which is the case.
Rainflinger (new)[edit | edit source]
The current iteration of rainflinger contains a central water sigil, with a fire sigil located above and below it, a crosshair sign on each side. Like the old versions, this version of the spell creates a water repellent area, creating bubble devoid of water within the spell's radius, though it is not known if this is done by repelling or drying said water.
Usage[edit | edit source]
The repelling variants of this spell was used by Qifrey and the girls of the atelier, sans Agott, when they went to have a picnic on a rainy day.[2] When they returned, it was used by Qifrey to intimidate Olruggio when he attempted to turn Coco over to the Knights Moralis.[3] Later, the drying variant was used to dry off Brushbuddy, drawn on a set of link rings Olruggio had made.[4] The repellant version is likely to be the spell used in the Raincleaver, which, along with the link rings containing the drying variant, were used to help rescue Custas and the Outsiders he and Dagda were traveling with.[5] The drying variant was seen again on a piece of official merch (a coaster) with Brushbuddy lying on top of it.[6]
