Pegasus are winged horses that are used to draw flying carriages and are usually owned by the fairly wealthy.
Description[edit | edit source]
The pegasus is essentially a horse with four legs and two pairs of wings growing from where its ears and tail should be, with scientific debate raging between whether they should be classified as having four or eight limbs.[1] To protect the hooves of the pegasus, it is largely prohibited to take off or land on paved surfaces,[1] as the impact of their hooves on such hard surfaces can lead to damage. On land, the speed of a pegasus is a little slower than the speed of an average horse.[1]
History[edit | edit source]
A pegasus was first seen at the very start of volume 1, on one of the colored pages. They're properly introduced in the story soon after, when a pair of nobles use a Pegasus Carriage pulled by the beasts to visit the cloth shop run by Coco's mother.[2]
Later on during final night of Silver Eve, Former Wise in Friendship Engendale tells Qifrey of how the Pegasus and some other species like the Eldroxen and Frillrams were actually created by witches using magic to fuse animals together in the era before the Day of the Pact. Considered a great success, these fused creatures were tamed and bred into abundance while their unnatural beginnings were pushed from mind. This practice ended when such magic became forbidden.[3]
