Brushbuddy (Species)

Brushbuddies or Brushbugs, are a small species of magical creature that inhabits a wide range of places.

Description

Brushbuddies are a type of magical creature completely covered in soft fluffy fur which comes in a range of colors, from white to black to striped. They have four short, stubby legs located under their small torso, and possess an extremely long and thick tail as thick as its torso, although they are much shorter when they are born and progressively grow longer as they mature. They like to eat nuts and berries. Brushbuddies are attracted to the scent of magical ink, so they tend to be found around witches. Brushbuddies may sometimes get into bottles of ink, and proceed to coat their underbellies with it, which can end up causing a mess.

History

The first brushbuddy seen was technically at the start of Chapter 1 on one of the colored pages, but the first proper encounter with one in the story, is by Coco in Chapter 4 at Dadah Range. This Brushbuddy later makes numerous appearances in later chapters, and is a permanent resident at Qifrey's Atelier.

The second brushbuddy to be introduced in the story is a black brushbuddy that appears in Chapter 52 as Eoleo Ezrest's pet.

Trivia

• Brushbuddy was designed by パークさん, at the request of Kamome Shirahama, prior to the start of the series. パーク also coined the creature's Japanese name, フデムシ. Both the character design and name are inspired by an ink brush. Notably, パーク's original design is said to have had straighter hair and stiffer movements, and they credit Shirahama with imbuing with a more lively look.
