Overview |
Alaira (アライラ, Araira) is a witch that is friends with Qifrey and Olruggio.[citation needed]
Appearance[edit | edit source]
Alaira has dark skin and hair that is red near the bottom and white up top, which she wears in an upturned hairstyle. Aside from her hair, the rest of Alaira face is noticeable for her gray eyes, blue earrings and red lipstick.
Her outfit largely consists of yellow, white, and gray tones. She wears a cape with yellow colors, wears gold accessories and her clothes have some yellow details.
Her hat is sand colored and adorned with a feather at the point. The feather fades from blue to white. A length of cloth is wrapped around the base and affixed to the front by a golden ornament.

Personality[edit | edit source]
In her few appearances, Alaira behaved as a carefree yet caring friend to Qifrey. She was worried about apprentices such as Euini and accepted to take care of the kids in the best she could.[citation needed]
With this little information, it seems that Alaira is a carefree and charismatic person who cares for those around her, doing her best to help her friends, such as Qifrey, and also take care of the students, such as Tetia and Coco during the The Sincerity of the Shield when she was alone with the two apprentices during while in the Serpentback Cave.
Alaira has also demonstrated selflessness such as when she decided to take Euini under her wing after the aforementioned Sincerity of the Shield, despite knowing full well that she would have to leave her life behind and live in hiding as a result.[1]
While she had initially thought that she would never become a teacher,[citation needed] now that she has been traveling with Euini for some time, she is beginning to warm up to the idea.[2]
History[edit | edit source]
Some time before the start of the story, Alaira befriended Olruggio and Qifrey, but upon becoming a full fledged witch, she decided not to take on an apprentice. Nothing else is known about her past.
Magical Items[edit | edit source]
- Stretcher Skiff: A magical levitating cloth that can be used as a stretcher to carry the wounded[3] or other miscellaneous things.[4] Appears to be the underside of her cloak.

Relationships[edit | edit source]
Euini[edit | edit source]
Alaira is currently looking after Euini, acting as his master in all but name. She took him in after failing to protect him from the Brimmed Caps,[6] leaving her former life behind in the process. She promised Euini that she would keep him safe while they were on the run, eventually starting to teach him how to live his life with dignity and not to take the easy way out.
Alaira has become a mentor and teacher to Euini, with Euini learning to live his life with dignity without taking the easy way out thanks to her example.[7] Much to Alaira's surprise, despite not wanting to ever become a teacher in the past, she has begun to warm up to the idea.[2]

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- On the very last page of volume 5, there is a passage that describes her hat.[8]
- While in the concept stage, Alaira was intended to own a second-hand shop. This concept however seems to not have stuck around for serialization, and she may perhaps do some kind of work within the Great Hall instead.[9]
- Alaira has had one proper appearance in Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen and appears in Chapter 5 when Qifrey is pushing a school of Parasol Jelly away from the Great Hall. Alaira gathers the Jellies that had fallen into the Mist Basin in her Stretcher Skiff, which Qifrey then puts in a box to take home for dinner. During this Kitchen chapter, Alaira reveals she'd rather look at the Parasol Jellies than eat them, as she finds them awfully cute.[10]
