Mystical ruins, sometimes referred to as magical ruins, are locations throughout the Zozah Peninsula warped by forbidden magic. For practical and safety reasons, only witches can access them.
History[edit | edit source]
Most mystical ruins were formed prior to the Day of the Pact as a result of what is now forbidden magic.[1] Due to the inherent danger present in such locations, only witches are permitted access.
The Pointed Cap Witches hold each of their Pentacle of Proving trials at a different mystical ruin to help impart the lessons of history upon young witches, and to hopefully dissuade them from repeating the mistakes of the past.[2]
Examples of such mystical ruins include:
The Dadah Range[edit | edit source]
The location of the first Pentagram Test: The Consent of the Crown.[3] Many ages ago, the King of Dadah wished to look down upon all else, and selfishly transformed the mountains into floating spheres high in the sky.[4] The mountain peaks can now only be accessed via magic.
The Serpentback Cave of Cape Romonon[edit | edit source]
The location of the second Pentagram Test: The Sincerity of the Shield.[5] A cavernous maze created by the ancient people of Romonon to prevent unwanted people from accessing the wealth of their city.[6] The now damaged path prevents myrphons from accessing their breeding grounds without magical intervention.[7]
The Shadow Forest of Thristas[edit | edit source]
A silverwood forest transformed ages ago into a perpetually dark[8] and miasma-filled ruin when the Dark Witch of Thristas attempted to raise the dead.[4]
The Smoky Wastes[edit | edit source]
An unknown, ancient location somewhere in the far north.[4]
The Gaping Maw of the Zozah Straits[edit | edit source]
An unknown, ancient location somewhere in the east.[4]
The Staircase River[edit | edit source]
A river near Qifrey's Atelier that was massively damaged during a rescue attempt by Coco,[9] when she unwittingly used blood magic.[10] It is unclear whether the damage done is irreparable.[11] Like other mystical ruins, access by Outsiders has been barred for safety reasons until further investigation and/or stabilization can be completed.[12][13]
