The Zozah Peninsula, also known as the Land of the Pact, is the setting for the story of Witch Hat Atelier and is the homeland to the characters that were seen until now.
Description[edit | edit source]
The land is a large continent bordered on its eastern and western edges by ocean and with unknown lands extending to the north and south. It is a land with magic, though its use is limited to Witches since the Day of the Pact. There are a handful of areas that have been irrevocably warped by magic and are thus uninhabitable,[1] but otherwise there is a variety of biomes[2] and is the home to many human settlements, as well as fauna and flora.
Zozah has Five Rulers over the five main kingdoms located in the DragonPass Isles, Highland Pastures, the Golden Plains, the Mistgrove, and Mudrock Canyon. And over them is the High Ruler of the Zozah Estus, King Deanreldy Ezrest.[3] These nations and leaders are not witches, but Outsiders — those without knowledge of how magic works. Though witches may live in towns in or near these kingdoms, they generally have their own separate societies and claim no allegiance to any nation or ruler so that they can extend aid freely and not be involved in war.[4]
Locations[edit | edit source]
A growing list of the places seen and mentioned in Zozah.
Settlements[edit | edit source]
- Ezrest Castle, located at the tip of the Zozah Peninsula is the seat of the king Deanreldy Ezrest and his family and Eoleo Ezrest. Many Outsiders live in the city surrounding the castle, and every year the Silver Eve festival is held here.
- The Great Hall, located at the bottom of the ocean, is the center for witch society and is where many witches call home.
- Ghodrey, known as the City of Magic in the North, is the home of many witches and the original home for Olruggio and Utowin.
- Kalhn of the Marshwoods, located near the Naakiwan Downs is an island town built by witches but also has a bustling Outsider population. Home to Nolnoa, Tartah, and the The Starry Sword.
- Qifrey's Atelier located in the Naakiwan Downs, consists of just his atelier and is a bit distant from both Kalhn and Coco's village.
- Coco's Village is a tiny village south of the Naakiwan Downs and is the original home for Coco and her mother.

Areas Warped By Magic[edit | edit source]
Areas that became irrevocably changed in the days before the Pact by what is now considered Forbidden Magic, are still that way during Coco's apprenticeship. As a way to warn young witches of the danger of magic and the sins of yore, a number of these places have become used a testing ground for The Pentacle of Proving, a series of tests for witch apprentices to become fully-recognized witches.[6]

Other Points of Interest[edit | edit source]
Fauna and Flora[edit | edit source]
Fauna[edit | edit source]
Zozah Peninsula is home to many kinds of animals. Many of these creatures have unique features such as multiple sets of wings or a horn jutting from their forehead, or have a unique combination of different animal attributes. Some of these animals are the results of Witch tinkering from the days before the Pact, and were considered such successes that they were tamed and bred and became normalized over the generations.[7]

Monsters[edit | edit source]
Animals crafted by Witches in the days before the Pact that were heavily tainted by magic and were too wild and dangerous to be tamed became known as Monsters. These creatures caused terror and havoc and many were slain or driven off.[8]
