The Staircase River was a river which was part of the Upstream Marshwoods, believed to eventually meet up with the River of the Marshwoods before eventually flowing into the southernmost portion of the region before flowing into the ocean. It was situated just west of Qifrey's Atelier, within riding distance by horse.[1][2]
After an incident where the bridge spanning the river collapsed,[1] magic ink, secretly modified by the Brimmed Caps, caused Coco's spell to be overwhelmingly strong during the rescue attempts by Qifrey's Atelier. This resulted in the entire river turning to sand, completely destroying the landscape in that area through a massive magic disaster,[3] causing the river downstream to temporarily run dry.[4] Olruggio constructed a bridge made from sand to replace the broken one, and the water quickly began to return, restoring the river's flow.[5] It is unknown what long-lasting effects the spell had on the environment of the area.
