The Brimmed Caps are witches who reject the rules set by the Day of the Pact and continue to use Forbidden Magic, such as spells to harm others or directly affect or transform the body, along with the forbidden act of making spell tattoos on their own bodies or those of others. Their name comes from the style of their hats, that have brims or other ornaments to obscure their faces[1] as opposed to the Pointed Cap Witches, whose caps may have no brim.
Some of the Brimmed Caps, like Iguin and Sasaran, express an interest in having Coco become a user of forbidden magic: claiming that she is the "child of hope." By having her use forbidden magic in a proper way for proper reasons and therefore validating its use,[2] they see Coco as the key to unlocking the infinite possibilities and freedoms that was outlawed by the Day of the Pact.[3] When Coco was a young child, Iguin was responsible for selling her a picture book filled with spells normal and forbidden, along with a pen and bottle of ink.[4] Years later, after witnessing the secret of how magic was cast, Coco began drawing the spells from that picture book and unintentionally turned her mother to stone.[5] Becoming Qifrey's apprentice in the aftermath, Iguin and Sasaran continued to target Coco and her friends in their attempt to move her into using forbidden magic.[6][7]
Other Brimmed Caps, like Restys and Ininia, are more interested in using forbidden magic to heal, even sharing their spells with Outsiders who need help.[8] In this way, they recruited Custas as an ally when his not-father Dagda was gravely injured[9] as well as granting Custas the ability to walk again.[10] Interestingly, Ininia expressed anger and disgust at how any negative actions or spells get blamed on the Brimmed Caps as a whole, whether or not they were truly involved,[11] as is the case for the Valance Leech (Monster)'s creation.{{Ref|m|68|16]] Currently, Restys and Ininia have a plan to "gift" a bottle of something to Deanreldy Ezrest, King of Zozah Peninsula and a renowned healer.[12]
The exact social structure of the Brimmed Caps is unknown. There have been mentions of some group meetings where the Brims kept their true identities hidden;{{Ref|m| but whether there is a larger alliance between members or simply everyone acting on their own goals, has yet to be revealed. Iguin and Sasaran were working together during the Second Pentagram Test Arc,[13] but Restys and Ininia have yet to be shown to have any connection to them.
