A beast warding tower is a chimney-shaped contraption located along the sides of roads.
Description[edit | edit source]
Beast warding towers are made of bricks stacked in a cylindrical shape that tapers upward. They have a circular hatch built into the side that opens to a hollow and sheltered interior. They are roughly one and a half times taller than an adult human and are built along the sides of roads.
Inside the towers, a beast repellent glyph is drawn on a piece of animal hide inside of a square-shaped frame.[1] This glyph deters wild creatures from approaching the roads along which the towers are located, keeping travelers protected from dangerous animals. The means through which the beast repellent glyph deters wild animals is unknown.
History[edit | edit source]
Qifrey and his apprentices helped restore decaying glyphs inside several beast warding towers as they traveled to the Silver Eve festival. Qifrey explained that every season, a fully-fledged witch must do a minimum of three tasks similar to fixing the towers, as it is a witch's duty to help people. He also explained there are traveling witches that do up to twenty or thirty of these tasks per season.
