Chapter Twenty-Six of the fifth volume of the Witch Hat Atelier manga series.
Summary[edit | edit source]
Easthies asks Kukrow why he isn't in Cape Romonon since his student Euini was scheduled to undertake the second test there. Kukrow dodges the question and leaves in a hurry. A man eating an apple sees this and makes a comment about Kukrow's lack of responsibility, The man also questions Easthies' motives for being in the Magic Security Council. Easthies addresses the man as Utowin and tells him that, since magic has the power to shape the world, it is necessary for someone to supervise its use. In fact, due to how dangerous magic is, many witches decide to isolate themselves in places which have been altered by powerful spells, such as the Great Hall.
Easthies and Utowin move to a different room within the Great Hall, where the Easthies blocks the sudden attack of a boy called Ekoh. His twin brother, Etlan, chastises him for being so reckless. A man named Galga takes away the twins' spears, while a woman, Luluci, immobilizes them with binding banners. Galga informs Easthies that, regarding the incident at Staircase River, the collapsed bridge and riverbank turned to sand have been fixed. Luluci adds that they prepared an Sealchair for the injured boy, who is now recovering at a Medical Facility in Kalhn.
Easthies comments they need to stay vigilant, or otherwise the Outsiders will find out the secret of magic. He instructs Utowin to take the twins to the training grounds, and Galga and Luluci to report their findings to Vinnana. Silver Eve and the anniversary of the Day of the Pact are approaching, so they have to keep their guard up.
As everyone leaves, Utowin notices an application for the second test and realizes that Easthies was aware of Euini's test because the other examinee, Richeh and Agott were Qifrey's students, whom Eathies was keeping track of. Easthies says children shouldn't be underestimated because they have more freedom than any other people, and emphasizes that previous mistakes must not be repeated.
Back at Serpentback Cave, Coco is using a magic compass to locate Richeh. Alaira has applied first aid to Qifrey and she is using her Stretcher Skiff to transport him. As they move through the labyrinth, they are being observed by the dark-cloaked Brimmed Cap witch.
