The Frillrams is a sheep-like creature native to the Zozah Peninsula.
Description[edit | edit source]
Frillrams are comparable to sheep with thick, woolly fur touched with dark spotted patches. However, their heads more closely resemble tapirs, with tiny ears, two eyes, and somewhat elongated, flexible snouts. Their four legs are also more akin to tapirs, with toe-like protrusions rather than the cloven hooves seen in sheep. Unlike both sheep and tapir, frillrams sport long, hairy tails. The "frill" part of their name likely refers to the mane-like added bulk or wool around their neck and shoulders.
Their diet consists primarily of grasses. As a result, their meat has a strong, gamey smell that many people find undesirable.[1] There are a number of methods to address the odor, such as trimming and/or parboiling away as much fat as possible, as that is where the odor tends to concentrate.[2] Spices and herbs can also be utilized to either mask or compliment the aroma.[1][3]
History[edit | edit source]
Frillrams were one of the creatures mentioned by Engendale, the Former Wise in Friendship, along with other species like the Eldroxen and Pegasus, that were actually created by witches using magic to fuse animals together in the era before the Day of the Pact. Considered a great success, these fused creatures were tamed and bred into abundance, while their unnatural origin was pushed from the mind.[4]
Frillram continue to be raised for wool production and for food. Coco's Village kept a number of these animals, and as a daughter of a tailoring family, Coco became quite familiar with them.[5]
In Chapter 51 (Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen), Qifrey buys an assortment of raw meat, including frillram meat, after helping a village partially destroyed by a Dragon. His students later use the meat to make stew in Chapter 54 (Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen).

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The frillram design resembles that of the Litopterns, a prehistoric group of animals from South America. Sadly they're all extinct.
- The Japanese name, 襟巻羊, literally translates as "scarf/muffler sheep," and is similar to the Japanese name for frill-necked lizards, 襟巻蜥蜴. It's unclear if the frillram can extend their neck frills in a similar fashion.
