Monsters are artificially created beings made through the application of Forbidden Magic to combine different creatures.[1]
Description[edit | edit source]
In the era before the Day of the Pact, witches used magic to fuse different fauna and flora together.[1] When these experiments were successful, like with the Pegasus, Eldroxen, and Frillram, they were tamed and bred into abundance.[2] But when the new creatures were aggressive and could not be tamed, when they caused destruction and havoc on the populace, they became known as Monsters. And it led to many tales and legends of heroes rising to vanquish these beasts. An era that ended with the Pact and such magic becoming Forbidden.[2]
The key difference between why the fused creatures could be tamed but the monsters could not, may be because monsters included a human in the fusing experiment.[3]
Examples[edit | edit source]
Enormous serpent-like monsters with fish and anthropod-like traits. Two of them inhabit the lake surrounding the Tower of Tomes,[4] a secret location that can only be accessed by Windowway.[5] Was shown as one of the examples of Monsters created by witches as told by Engendale.[2]
A monster combining a Valance Leech and a human that was made during Silver Eve.[6] It grew to an enormous size—rivaling the height of Ezrest Castle—and went on to attack the town. Its numerous tentacles have leech-like mouths at the end of each one, where it can attack anything living to suck its blood.[7] Could be fought back with physical attacks, and was weak to fire and salt.[8]
- Fire Lion[unofficial name]
A monster from before The Day of the Pact, that seemingly fuses a human and lion, as well as displaying fire magic and a serpent/lizard-like tail.[3] Has not been seen in the story, but was shown as an example of monsters created by witches, as told by Engendale.[1]
