Flying Shrimp are a close relative to the shrimp that fill the rivers and lakes of the Naakiwan Downs.
Description[edit | edit source]
A shrimp that can fly. They have a pair of fins on their body above their legs that can be maneuvered like wings, and another pair of fins along their tail. They are partial to eating roasted Carapace Yam.[1] When the shrimp are freshly removed from their shells, their inner bodies are clear enough to almost see through.[2] The fins can also be cooked and eaten-- and whether to add lemon juice or not for added flavor is a hotly debated topic.[3]
History[edit | edit source]
Olruggio pulled up a wooden trap full of Flying Shrimp from a lake near Qifrey's Atelier by using roasted carapace yam for bait, which Qifrey later used to make Witch Hat Dumplings for dinner.[1] In a bonus chapter, Qifrey deep-fries the leftover Flying Shrimp fins for a late-night snack for him and Olruggio, but unintentionally sparks a debate when he squeezes lemon juice over them before Olruggio has a chance to try them without it.[3]

Notes[edit | edit source]
- Deep-fried Flying Shrimp fins (and whether or not to add lemon juice to it) may be a reference to the real-world Japanese fried chicken からあげ Kara'age and its similar debate of whether and when to add lemon juice.[4]
- For real-world recipes, Flying Shrimp can be substituted with any non-flying variety of shrimp.[5]
