The Sinsinger is a mythical bird in the Zozah Peninsula that inspired the style of the Knights Moralis uniform, and is a symbol for their group.[1]
Description[edit | edit source]
A legendary bird with crimson plumage[2] said to appear in the dreams of the guilty and wrongdoer's.[3] It will continually visit those dreams until the person gives up or is punished.[1]
The bird itself has not been seen within the manga proper, but motifs of its white wings can be seen gracing the sides of the Knights Moralis cap,[3] as well as the Knights' cloak clasp which is in the shape of a white bird with a tassel hanging from its tail.[4] The Knights' crimson cloaks are also a reference to this bird's red plumage.[2]
Artwork of what is presumably the Sinsinger has different details each time. It is not known if the design has changed over the years, or if it represents different interpretations or forms of this mythical bird. These designs include:
- The Reproduction Selection (2019) concept art:
- This bird is described as having white, black, and red feathers.[1] It has long-arching crimson or black feathers trailing from its head with frilled feathers around its neck, along with a white body and tail whose feathers end in a crimson or black color.
- Illustration with Easthies (2020):[5]
- A white bird with a short crest on its head and a black mark between its eyes. Its tail feathers are generally short, but in the center has a long trailing feather. This design most resembles the motifs seen on the Knights Moralis uniform, both in the design of the wings and on the Knights' cloak clasp. However there is a noticeable lack of crimson feathers on the bird.
- The Chapter 80 Cover (2024):
- These birds have crimson or black feathers with a white bullseye design over the top of their heads, with one of the white bands going under the neck. This design closely resembles the Sinsinger's Talons attack by the Knights Moralis,[6] and so may be an (alternate?) form of the Sinsinger.

Other Mentions[edit | edit source]
SPOILER WARNING FOR CHAPTER 79 and CHAPTER 80
An advanced Knights Moralis attack with the Silver-White Capture Pennant involves combining the Memory Erasure spell to the pennant, causing the fabric to turn black and gives the pennant's end a bullseye design with talon-like appendages. This attack is called Sinsinger's Talons ( 罪告鳥の鉤爪 Tsumitsugedori no kagizume),[6] and attacks with lightening speed to erase people's memories. In Chapter 80 when Easthies grabs a second Capture Pennant so he has two spears to attack with, there is a panel that harkens to the Sinsinger with these capture pennants as its talons.[7]
End of spoiler.
History[edit | edit source]
The Sinsinger was first mentioned as a concept relating to the Knights Moralis in the Volume 5 extra, "The Hats of Witch Hat." This was also around the time that the Witch Hat Atelier: Reproduction Selection (2019) book was released, which included an overlay page that had a concept illustration of the bird with some info.[1] An updated design (or a different bird entirely) was drawn with Easthies and posted to Twitter in December 2020[5] Years later, a version of what seems to be Sinsingers appeared on the cover for Chapter 80 in relation to in-manga events by the Knights Moralis.
