Chapter Two of Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen.
Summary[edit | edit source]
Olruggio had been struggling with a project when he decides to bake custard pudding cups for him and Qifrey. Only after he's already started cooking, he realizes that they are out of Sandvanilla Bean and decides to substitute it with Honeytree. Due to how sweet honeytree is, he has to increase the quantities of the other ingredients to balance it out, and ends up with 5 pudding cups. Meaning there's enough for Qifrey and the girls...but not him. Growing tired, he adds fruit to the cups' final presentation, puts them on ice with a spell, and goes to bed.
The next morning, the girls and Qifrey wake up to find the pudding cups. The girls excitedly eat theirs but Qifrey saves his for later. Afterwards, Qifrey confronts Olruggio in his workshop about the pudding cups, thanking him for making them and saying that there is one left. Olruggio tells Qifrey that's for him, as he already had his last night. Qifrey calls out the lie, knowing enough about baking and their supplies to know that he only could've made 5 and not 6 cups. Complimenting Olruggio on how he always considers others before himself, Qifrey reveals that he has split the last pudding cup to share between them. And while eating, Olruggio gets a strike of inspiration for his project.

Translation Notes[edit | edit source]
- On page 6, Olruggio specifically notes in the Japanese version that distilled spirits can be used as a substitute for Sandvanilla Beans, and is accompanied by labeled drawings of Rum and Brandy bottles. The English translation somewhat obscures this by having Olruggio instead say: "Sandvanilla's a good option, but there's plenty of other ways to flavor custard puddin'." The drawings remain labeled as Rum and Brandy.
- When Qifrey reveals the split pudding cups at the end of the chapter, he says Olruggio's name in the Japanese version. In the English translation, this is omitted to instead say, "All right."
Chapter Notes[edit | edit source]
- Sandvanilla beans and Quartz sugar were first seen in Chapter 1 (Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen), but they were not used in Qifrey's recipe.
- This chapter originally published alongside Chapter 1 in the January 2020 issue of Morning Two magazine[1]
