Chapter Nine of Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen.
Summary[edit | edit source]
During lunch one day, Agott points out that Richeh's stew doesn't have any vegetables in it. Richeh in turn points out that everyone has some pickiness over food in the atelier, like Agott with Badland Beans, Tetia with bitter foods, and Coco with seafood. Qifrey she can't guess, and everyone agrees Olruggio is definitely a picky eater, much to his chagrin. Shortly after, Olruggio and Qifrey are out by a nearby lake, and Qifrey ponders about food preferences and how he doesn't want to push the girls into eating something they don't like but still worries if they're eating properly. Olruggio pulls up a basket trap from the lake and comes to shore, gushing about how much Flying Shrimp they caught with a roasted Carapace Yam. This excitedly gives Qifrey an idea for dinner, and he rushes Olruggio to return to the Atelier to look after the girls while he stays to clean the shrimp.
When ready, Qifrey returns home and begins preparing the shelled shrimp, mincing some and cutting others into chunks to preserve its texture and looks. He also brings out a lot of vegetables—Sword Carrots, Chrysanthonions, Horncaps, and Rocklodge Ginger—and then minces it all. He then mixes the vegetables and shrimp together with a bit of salt and carapace yam starch to create the filling. Then he makes a basic dough for the wrappers: cutting them into equal pieces, rolling them flat, then spooning a bit of the filling into the middle. When done, he pinches the dumpling closed and adds it to boiling water to cook. Deciding they need more presentation in order to charm and distract the girls from the vegetables, he twists the dumplings more to make a pointed witch-hat shape. When ready to serve, the girls are amazed by the dumplings' looks and taste, and it's especially a hit with Richeh who eats more than anyone else. Olruggio congratulates Qifrey, who sits on the floor and admits that preparing everything for the dumplings was exhausting. Olruggio suggests that next time Qifrey let him help, so he's not going to all this effort for a one-course meal. Qifrey frets upon realizing this, apologizing and saying he'll immediately start working on some side dishes. Olruggio tells him to sit down and relax and that he'll do it, while Richeh questions the need for more food, and Coco gives the conclusion that everyone helped make a few more dishes.
