Thornbark is a type of plant whose needles can be used for drinks, medicine, and magical component purposes.

Description[edit | edit source]

Clusters of needle-like seedpods[1] that sprout from sturdy branches. The needles have a natural astringency and bitterness, and is effective at staving off sleep.[2] When served as tea, copious amounts of Honeytree nectar is usually added to it.[2] It has a strong burnt smell to it (or a smoky, caramel-like aroma[1]), and combined with its strong bitterness makes it a drink generally not for children.[3] Produces a deep amber[1] to black[4] color depending on the steeping strength and other ingredients mixed in with it.

Its use for medical and magical component purposes has not been explored yet.

History[edit | edit source]

It was first seen when Tartah was rummaging through the herb stores at the Kalhn Medical Facility while looking for a healing herb for Coco.[5] Since Tartah recognized it, and because many of the Marktea herbs are also used as casting components,[6] there's a good chance Thornbark is also used to make ink dyes.

Thornbark made its debut in Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen when Qifrey introduced Marktea to Coco,[7] and has been used occasionally since as a drink Olruggio favors to help him stay up late to work on his contraption designs.[8]

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • For real-world recipes, Thornbark can be substituted with your preferred blend of invigorating black tea[12] or coffee grounds.[1]
