Sandvanilla is a type of cactus that grows in the arid eastern wastes of the Zozah Peninsula.[1] The seedpods on top are edible and called Sandvanilla Beans.

Description[edit | edit source]

A short round cactus with rows of spines covering the outside. Has light-colored flowers, and grows several seedpods from the top of the plant. These seedpods are long and skinny, and are known as Sandvanilla Bean which are used as an ingredient in cooking. The pods have a sweet, distinctive aroma.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

Sandvanilla Bean was originally going to be an ingredient in Olruggio's custard pudding cups, but the Atelier had run out so he instead used Honeytree nectar.[2] At a later date, a dash of Sandvanilla Bean was used in Qifrey's Sky-Blue Sorbet for added flavoring.[3]

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • Sandvanilla Bean was first seen in Chapter 1 (Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen), but were not actually used in Qifrey's recipe.
  • Distilled spirits like Rum or Brandy can be used as a substitute for Sandvanilla Beans in recipes, though Honeytree works too.[4]
  • For real-world recipes, Sandvanilla Beans can be substituted with regular vanilla.[5]
