Chapter Seventy Six of the Witch Hat Atelier manga series.
Summary[edit | edit source]
Utowin is fighting off curtain leeches when Easthies comes to help him. Easthies tells Utowin that Vinanna has called for an evacuation and for everyone to get to someplace safe indoors. Utowin questions why she would do this when the curtain leeches are still on the loose; he wants to stay and fight.
The chapter cuts to a flashback of Utowin as a child in his hometown of Ghodrey, showing how he struggled to pay attention during school and sit still.
Utowin meets up with his dad who remarks on how a young Olruggio is so talented, having won awards and is tagging along on trips despite not having a master, while his son is struggling to draw even a single worthwhile spell.
Later, Utowin is talking to his friends about how he wants to be good at something others consider useful. They mention how Olruggio is being taken on a trip to Noz with some witches. They mention how its not fair as Olruggio hasn't even completed a test yet.
Utowin walks into town thinking on how he would like to be the one to able to comfort Olruggio, essentially wishing Olruggio would fail just once. Up ahead he sees a crowd of people talking about the Noz trip; how there were some beasts. Utowin sees Olruggio crying on a bench about not being able to save more than two people. He instantly feels regret over his earlier thoughts as a witch's mistakes usually result in death, and that he just wished someone would rely on him. At this point, a drawing of young Easthies is shown.
Cutting back to the present, Easthies agrees to Utowin's resolve to stay and fight. Sensing Utowin's doubt, Easthies says he would not entrust his life to Utowin if he didn't think he was not skilled. Utowin remarks to himself that he will follow Easthies wherever he goes.
