Chapter Twenty-Five of the fifth volume of the Witch Hat Atelier manga series.
Summary[edit | edit source]
As Euini moves deeper into the labyrinth, Agott follows him using a magical compass. She hides, however, when the dark-cloaked Brimmed Cap witch shows up, who captures Euini to take him to where Coco is. Agott watches him leave, and wonders why is Coco so important to the brimhats.
Meanwhile, Richeh looks for the exit to the Serpentback Cave with the myrphons, and laments not being able to help. She reminisces about her past before joining Qifrey's atelier. Four years ago she was allowed to study in the same atelier as her brother, Riliphin. Her master constantly berated her for not drawing the spells he had assigned her. Riliphin was more obedient, but he didn't seem happy either. Richeh eventually agreed to draw what her professor instructed her to, but she also drew her own spells next to her assignment, as minuscule as possible so that he wouldn't notice. Riliphin observed this, and told Richeh she was a genius, and asked if she would save him.
Some time later, Richeh was forced to take the first test, the Consent of the Crown, and she was instructed to use only the spells her professor taught her. She managed to pass the test, but lamented she wasn't allowed to be herself. She looked at Riliphin, who seemed upset, aswell.
In the present, Richeh wonders whether she should be contempt using her own magic, or instead sacrifice her individuality to be useful. She finds the exit to the Serpentback Cave and gets to a beach. The myrphons refuse to leave her side since she is still wearing the Mirror Cloak of Borrowshade. As she is about to take it off, she notices Euini's Palm Quire. It contains spells from the magic textbook, but they have been slightly modified: Euini increased the number of signs to make up for the lack of steadiness of his lines.
Richeh realizes that a witch's specialties, worries and how they solve their weaknesses will always be present in their magic, even if they learned their spells from a textbook. She removes her Mirror Cloak, which scares the myrphons away. She starts drawing a spell to help Euini with.
Kukrow is at the entrance to the Great Hall where Easthies questions him about why he isn't at the test.
