Chapter Eighteen of the fourth volume of the Witch Hat Atelier manga series.
Summary[edit | edit source]
Agott stands atop a cliff near the Atelier. She leans forward and falls down while using her sylph shoes. Moving faster than ever, she passes a pack of Scalewolves as they knock into each other in order to remove their scales for mating season. She eventually makes her way up a tree and stops gently at the top, commenting on the scalewolves. She makes parallels between them and herself. She begins to reject her preconceived notions on Outsiders.
Back at the Atelier, Coco is studying with Qifrey while Tetia and Olruggio are nearby. Qifrey notes how Coco has a specialty which are straight lines. This encourages her to study harder by focusing on that. Qifrey quickly interjects saying how important it is to focus on areas that you may lack rather than something that comes naturally. Coco is given a book of spells to study. She goes on about how amazing spells are due there variety and near infinite possibilities. She then asks Richeh if she's interested in new spells. Richeh rejects the idea preferring to focus on what she wants and enjoys, but Qifrey chimes in. In frustration Richeh uses magic and breaks a table.
With Coco running after her, Qifrey is left to clean up the mess as Olruggio comments on the situation. He notes how you can't grow if you ignore advice and/or criticism.
Coco goes to find Richeh and apologize for making her upset, but she isn't in her room. Coco's Brushbuddy catches her attention and she finds a pot that opens to a small cave. Falling in she calls out to Richeh and is amazed by the crystal ribbons hanging above her. Coco is amazed as usual and Richeh says she can have one. She then asks Richeh why she doesn't like to know about other spells. Richeh then explains that it takes away what makes her unique. She doesn't want to follow what's already been done.
Back to Olruggio and Qifrey. Qifrey says how Richeh broke away from her previous teacher and how she's like a scalewolf. Olruggio notes how people aren't as straight forward as spells which he then proceeds to give Qifrey Snugstones. He says they're for peace of mind and to share them with the girls. Qifrey compliments Olruggio on how his spells are thoughtful. Flustered Olruggio denies that and says its just for work. Qifrey finds an extra one for himself and Olruggio shrugs it off saying it's to help him teach by example.
A contraption flicks to life and a letter is promptly written. It's for the upcoming test, the Sincerity of the Shield, that Agott eagerly wants to takes. It's in three days at the Serpentback Cave on Cape Romonon.
