Summary[edit | edit source]
Olruggio is tidying up his workshop and lamenting how he's collected so much material to potentially use in contraptions that there's no room for it all. Looking at his box full of Roaming Scallop Shells, he briefly considers making them float and stack all of his material on top of them to save space... but is sure they'll later collapse and make a bigger mess. However, it gives him another idea. The next day, he reveals his contraption using them: the Magic Floating Dish(Unofficial name) (魔法の浮遊皿, Mahou no Fuyuuzara) to Qifrey and the girls. Coco and Tetia are especially thrilled by it while Qifrey questions about how wasn't Olruggio supposed to be cleaning his room. Olruggio brushes that off and goes on to explain how this contraption is perfect to use while resting in places such as a hammock or while in the bath, since it can float in place. The girls comment that it would be nice to use outside to eat on, since they wouldn't need a table or rug, but Olruggio discourages it as the Floating Dishes are too light to use outside as they will move with the slightest shock or breeze. Olruggio demonstrates and they all watch the Floating Dish circle between them before returning to Olruggio. Inspired by this, Qifrey grows very excited and wants to use them with dinner that night and asks if Olruggio can make ten more. He's shocked by the amount but agrees.
In the meantime, Qifrey begins working on the meal. Slicing and frying Whirlfuzz Swine rib meat and boiling it in Willowgrape wine, then afterwards adding Honeytree honey, grated Mountain Apple, and other spices and leaving it to simmer. His second dish gets the girls involved as they prepare and dice Turnipups, Shorecumbers, and smoked Cordfish, and mix with a seasoned vinegar sauce. By the time they're done, Olruggio has returned with the other Floating Dishes. As they move the food into the main living room, Qifrey reveals he's been thinking about this for a while since their kitchen table is a bit too small for all six of them to sit comfortably at. But when he saw Olruggio's contraption, he got this idea. As they all sit down on the rug in a big circle, Qifrey begins to dish out the meals, placing each bowl on top of a Floating Dish and then sending it on its way to each person. In this way, dishes with extras can easily be passed around, and it's fun to watch. Observing this, Olruggio realizes that the Magic Floating Dish's weakness was actually its strength, and thinks about how to further improve and commercialize its design. Coco frets at Olruggio's sudden change, while Qifrey sighs about how his Craftman's switch has turned back on, and laments that Olruggio cleaning his room will be further put off.
