Chapter Fifteen of the third volume of the Witch Hat Atelier manga series.
Summary[edit | edit source]
Qifrey reminisces about the banning of magic drawn on people’s bodies, a decision that medical witches were opposed to. The Twinned Bottles' Spell was magic used in the past by medical witches to easily transport medicine to ill people across vast distances.
Since the Brimmed Caps tampered with Coco’s conjuring ink by using a twin bottle, Qifrey believes he can use it to track them down by using a Guidance Orb. Before he can remove the medal engraved with the spell at the bottom of Coco’s ink bottle, he gets attacked by a lightning spell coming from the bottle, hitting his arm. He just barely manages to shield himself, realizing the Brimmed Caps have noticed him trying to remove the medal and are using the twinned bottle to attack him.
Water starts pouring from the bottle, and Qifrey becomes trapped in a whirlpool that fills the entire room. Unable to draw spells while submerged, he nearly drowns. But then the water flows back into the bottle, releasing him. The masked witch who gave Coco a forbidden magic book appears before Qifrey and breaks Coco’s bottle, preventing Qifrey from using it. He disappears into thin air as swiftly as he arrived. Qifrey declares he won’t give up until he takes back what the Brimmed Caps stole from him. Elsewhere, the masked witch reemerges and laments having to destroy the bottle after all the trouble he went through to give it to Coco.
The next morning, both Coco and Qifrey look exhausted. The other apprentices reprimand Coco for drawing all night instead of sleeping, since good magic requires food and rest. Tetia asks Qifrey if she should make medicinal tea, but notices Qifrey is drowsy as well. Qifrey brushes off their concerns and goes to make tea, before dropping it and making a mess on the floor. Laughing it off, he goes out into the garden to pick more tea leaves. Meanshile, Coco tells Agott she wants to show her something.
Coco gives Agott her Sylph Shoes back. Agott realizes the reason Coco didn’t sleep was because she wanted to draw the seal on the shoes well. She asks Coco why she didn’t tell Qifrey that Agott had pushed her into taking the first exam. Coco answers that she didn’t tell anything because she accepted the challenge and grew from that experience. Suddenly, Coco faints.
Outside, Qifrey chews on some Tranquileaf and regains feeling in his arm, hoping the girls didn't notice anything amiss with him. He is suddenly interrupted by Agott, who slams into him and sends them careening down the hill. Shocked by her speed, she explains it's because of how Coco drew the spell on her Sylph Shoes, and then tells Qifrey that Coco is sick.
Qifrey rushes Coco to Kalhn. In the city, Tartah is on his was to catch the ferry that will get him to the island where he lives, lamenting that he’s unable to simply fly where he needs to. He runs into Qifrey carrying Coco, who has gotten lost. Tartah guides them to the hospital through a shortcut he knows. Coco is taken inside by a doctor, leaving the men by the door. There, Tartah tells Qifrey that he would like to ask him a question.
